Fox News has reported that an Italian priest has decided to cancel a long standing tradition for his parish: the nativity scene from the Bible. What truly shocked everyone was the reason the priest gave for the cancelation.
Father Sante Braggie is the leader of the Municipal Cemetery of Cremona in Italy. The yearly display is set up in a corner of their local cemetery normally "reserved for Muslim graves".
“A crib positioned within sight of them could be seen as a lack of respect for followers of other faiths, hurt the sensibilities of Muslims, as well as Indians and even atheists,” Braggie said, according to a translation published in Express. “In short, it would be a mess.”
When reporters asked another Priest who used to work at the parish, he had quite a different response.
“Seriously? I can’t believe it,” Father Oreste Mori said. “We cannot renounce our culture and traditions. That would be an unpardonable weakness.”
Father Oreste Mori went on to say “I am, for the time being at least, in Italy, not Saudi Arabia.”
Do you think he was being respectful or compromising Christian values?
