Last month, the government went into an official shutdown. Now, they are on a brink of another one. On Wednesday, Senate leaders came up with a budget deal that could prevent the government from shutting down, contingent upon approval from Senate and Congress.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Leader Schumer agreed on a 2-year budget deal. The deal includes defense and nondefense programs, disaster relief funds, community health centers, infrastructure programs, and more.

Now, House and Senate representatives are sharing their opinion on the deal. If they choose not to pass it, the government will shut down Thursday at midnight, unless they vote on a temporary extension.

There are a few main reasons that representatives are against the deal.

First, the new deal would increase government spending by a significant amount. It would increase defense spending by around $80 billion, nondefense program spending by around $131 billion, and add $80 billion for disaster relief.

Second, the new deal does not include a debt-ceiling plan or a plan for immigration. On Wednesday, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi gave an 8-hour speech, talking about why DACA should be included in the new plan.

So far, two groups in the House have officially opposed the deal. According to CNN, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus (Democrats) and the House Freedom Caucus (conservatives), have opposed the deal.

At this point, it is unsure whether or not this deal will get approved and prevent a shutdown. On Wednesday, President Trump revealed his thoughts about the budget.

President Trump approves of the budget deal, especially because of the increase in military spending.
