The National Anthem is under attack in America. NFL players en masse are dropping to their knees in protest of it and our nation’s social injustices. Leftist media figures are calling the American flag a symbol of white supremacy, drenched with the blood of slaves and American Indians.
One Huffington Post contributor even argued on Wednesday that the act of simply standing for the singing of the “Star Spangled Banner” was an act of white supremacy. He claimed that because of our nation’s white supremacy, which affords privileges to light-skinned people, white people are unable to even grasp the meaning behind the protest.
Contributor Jesse Benn concluded, “So let’s at least be clear that what those players stood for on Sunday was white supremacy.”
Yet, from the liberal perspective, one of the left’s biggest heroes just showed a complete disregard for the #TakeAKnee movement and made a major mistake Thursday when the National Anthem began to play.
Three former presidents — Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama — attended the Presidents Cup at the Liberty National Golf Club in New Jersey, Golf Week reports. According to CBS Sports, a United States team faced off against an International Team that represents the rest of the world.
But at the opening of the tournament, as the winner’s cup was carried onto the field, a dreaded song began to play. Not surprisingly, President Bush stood for the National Anthem and placed his hand over his heart. But shockingly, so did President Obama!
Without visible shame or any sign of protest, Obama paid tribute to our flag and those who fought to preserve our freedom. Even President Clinton, arguably our nation’s first black president, held his hand over his heart as well. Take a look:
Now we will wait to see if the #TakeAKnee crowd takes issue with Obama’s unsupportive stance. But all sarcasm aside, we at Faith Family America are proud to see our former presidents giving our flag, its anthem, and our nation its deserved respect.
According to the Daily Caller, the Golf Channel announcer said, “Everyone around obviously stopped for a moment to honor our country. The national anthem in sports has been in the news… It rarely gets played at golf events. The [U.S.] captain indicated that no protest of any kind would happen here. The players stopped their warm up routine, hats off, hands on heart, national anthem sung.”
America may still have problems — and we always will — but we do not fail to acknowledge that our nation has overcome so many past sins, always strives to be better, is still the greatest nation on earth, and has been blessed by God since its founding. We pray God’s blessing will remain.
