Many wouldn't necessarily connect immigration and pro-life policy together, but apparently Pope Francis does, reports Life Site News. In a September 10 interview, Pope Francis criticized President Trump's heart for pro-life after his DACA decision. Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program allows children of illegal immigrants who were illegally brought into the country to remain and apply for work permits.
"I have heard the President of the United States speak," said Pope Francis. "He presents himself as a pro-life man. If he is a good pro-lifer, he should understand that the family is the cradle of life and you must defend its unity."
Pope Francis also suggested "young people who become detached from their roots and lose hope in the future" might choose suicide. "Young people today need to re-find their roots," Pope Francis continued. "And anything that goes against this robs them of hope."
The University of California recently sued the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to stop Trump's cancellation of DACA, a policy which was undisputedly unconstitutional in the first place.
“At UC we see the exceptional contributions that young ‘dreamers’ make every day,” UC President Janet Napolitano said Friday, shares the SF Gate. “Many are the first in their family to go to college. Some are pursuing a Ph.D. or ambitious humanitarian goals. They represent the spirit of the American Dream. The administration has dashed those dreams. We hope by this lawsuit to restore those dreams.”
But President Trump says he is only doing what he was elected to do, uphold the Constitution and protect the rights of the American people, says NBC News.
"In effect," the president said, "I am not going to just cut DACA off, but rather provide a window of opportunity for Congress to finally act. We will resolve the DACA issue with heart and compassion — but through the lawful democratic process — while at the same time ensuring that any immigration reform we adopt provides enduring benefits for the American citizens we were elected to serve."
What do you think of Trump's decision to ask Congress to properly reformulate DACA and of the pope's criticism of Trump's pro-life values? Share your thoughts in the comments! Thank you!
Franklin Graham, another faith leader, just made headlines for his strong apocalyptic statement about all of the many recent natural disasters. Instead of blaming Trump (like actress Jennifer Lawrence), Graham points to this telling statement from Jesus.
