Police have just arrested the lead suspect in a series of bombings and bombing attempts in New York and New Jersey.
According to CNN, authorities captured 28-year-old Ahmad Khan Rahami, who they believe may be the ringleader behind a bombing that injured 29 people in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City and was possibly trying to injure people involved in a Marine Corps charity run in Seaside Park, New Jersey. The bomb in New Jersey went off prematurely, and more bombs were found in Elizabeth, New Jersey and Chelsea. Investigators believe the blast in Chelsea could have killed many people if it had detonated as planned.
Rahami, who is a naturalized U.S. citizen of Afghan descent, was arrested following a shootout with police in Linden, New Jersey. One officer was hit in the hand while the other was hit in the vest. Their injuries are not life-threatening.
Also on Saturday, in a possibly connected terrorist attack, 22-year-old Dahir A. Adan injured 9 people in stabbing rampage at Crossroads Mall in Minnesota, according to Fox News. Adan was shot and killed by an off-duty police officer. ISIS has claimed Adan was one of their soldiers, but the FBI has not confirmed the connection.
Please join us in praying for the victims of these horrific and cowardly attacks.
