United Airlines has sparked outrage from many viewers of viral cellphone videos, showing police officers dragging a bleeding passenger off of an overbooked flight.
The passenger refused to get off the plane, claiming he was a doctor and had to see patients in the morning. The flight staff called the police, who then forcefully dragged him off of the plane. Other passengers were screaming, saying ‘This is wrong!’
People continue to debate whether United and the police officers were in the wrong.
However, the police claimed that “the officers were attempting to carry the man off the flight ‘when he fell’.”
The video clearly shows the officers forcing him from his seat, so this upset many viewers following the story.
The officer who dragged the passenger has been placed on administrative leave as investigation with this situation moves forward.
United also released a statement, apologizing for the incident:
"This is an upsetting event to all of us here at United. I apologize for having to re-accommodate these customers. Our team is moving with a sense of urgency to work with authorities and conduct our own detailed review of what happened. We are also reaching out to this passenger to talk directly to him and further address and resolve this situation.”
