Pastor Robert Jeffress said that God “has given Trump authority to take out” North Korean dictator Jim Jong-un, speaking in The Brody File.
“When it comes to how we should deal with evildoers, the Bible, in the book of Romans, is very clear: God has endowed rulers full power to use whatever means necessary—including war—to stop evil. In the case of North Korea, God has given Trump authority to take out Kim Jong-un,” he said.
Jeffress’ response came after Trump’s statement that should North Korea continue to taunt the United States, they will be “met with fire and fury like the world has never seen.”
“I’m heartened to see that our president—contrary to what we’ve seen with past administrations who have taken, at best, a sheepish stance toward dictators and oppressors—will not tolerate any threat against the American people,” said Jeffress. “When President Trump draws a red line, he will not erase it, move it, or back away from it. Thank God for a president who is serious about protecting our country.”
Jeffress used a passage from Romans 13 to say that the Bible “gives the government to the authority to do whatever, whether it’s assassination, capital punishment or evil punishment to quell the actions of evildoers like Kim Jong Un.”
Regarding Romans 12, which states, “Do not repay anyone evil for evil,” Jeffress explains that the passage refers to Christians, not the government.
Jeffress said also that he encourages Americans, whether Christian or non-Christian, to be observant of world affairs, noting that whatever happens with North Korea would affect all Americans.
But not all agree with Jeffress’ message:
President Trump issued his bold and controversial warning to North Korea Tuesday. Please pray for our country and leaders, and for North Korea, in this difficult time. Join the conversation on our Facebook page. Thank you!
