The faculty of Norwalk Early College Academy seemed excited to see first daughter Ivanka Trump when she made a surprise visit Monday at the high school just northeast of New York City in Connecticut. But some parents were livid that they weren’t informed first.
According to News 12 New Jersey, Ivanka made her visit to that particular school in order to emphasize the importance of getting a high-skills education that’s geared toward building a great future career.
Ivanka explained, "To see the passion and enthusiasm for bringing real-life skills into a classroom environment but then coupling it with real-life experience through internship creates this really beautiful virtuous angle.”
News of her impending visit was kept low-key because of security concerns, but when some parents found out, they pulled their kids out of school.
One upset parent, Karey Fitzgerald, said, "This should have been brought to our attention, although I do understand security reasons. I think we should have had the choice to send our child to school or keep them home."
But as news of Ivanka’s visit hit the media, other people bashed the first daughter’s visit for ideological reasons.
“I wouldn't want my children to be trapped in a room while someone speaks to them and I don't know what they are telling them,” wrote Living the Dream CEO Marcha Garn. “It was a secret visit. A secret from their parents.”
Responding to someone who defended Ivanka, Garn added, “Hitler influenced youth by speaking to them and recruiting them to his youth army. Parents should be able to choose who their children are exposed to. Why is Ivanka visiting children to promote her ideas? Shouldn't the parents be the ones she wants to speak to? I doubt you will listen to reason. None of Hitler's followers did either.”
But others did not see Ivanka’s visit as a problem. In fact, they saw it as an honor.
Western Washington University alum Jess Skillings commented, “The kids will be indoctrinated enough when they get to college, mom. Let them have a couple different experiences before they get to the echo chamber. How sad these parents are, and how sad their kid's lives will be if they never break free of this mindset.”
“[I]f your child is in a school with this kind of opportunity...I would think that the President daughter coming to see what this school does...Well... would been [an] honor to have her and the President aware of this center of excellent education...this is an example of corporate involvement in real life education,” wrote Excelsior College alum Jennifer Fisher Friedhoff.
Lori Cannon Brewer added, “Good Grief! Ivanka is a very smart caring young woman and is not evil! It is a shame that these parents are judging her by what they think of her father. She is there to encourage them in their education. Yes, maybe parents should know when a special speaker is coming, but if they trust their school enough for their children to be there why do they act like this?”
What do you think of this? In other news, is “The Office” returning to TV? Fans are freaking out at the latest reports.
