One of the Greatest Minds in America Dies from Cancer at the Age of 40

One of the greatest minds in the Math and Science's field has just passed away. Maryam Mirzakhani, an Iranian born mathematician, and Stanford professor has passed away at after a long battle with breast cancer. 

Maryam was only 40 years old. She was the first and only woman to win the Fields Medal, the most prestigious award in the math discipline.

She was a wife and mother in addition to being regarded as one of the brightest minds in America. The award that she won, the Fields Medal, is known as the equivalent of the Noble Prize for mathematics.  

The award was presented to Maryam by the International Congress of Mathematicians. People of her home country of Iran reached out through social media to express their condolences and their pride for all she had accomplished.
