Obama has used his second term in office to fundamentally change the country and impose his will. Recently, he sidestepped Congress and the traditional ways of passing laws when he took executive action and brought about a whole slew of gun regulations.
Those in power sat by and did nothing while Obama took it upon himself to implement his wishes. Now that he sees that no resistance is put up to try and block his actions, Obama is set to take another action with or without congressional support.
Since Obama first took office, he has had disdain for the Guantanamo Bay detainee center where terrorists and America’s enemies have been held. According to Fox News, the White House has made it clear that Obama wants to shut down the facility and release the prisoners.
“He feels an obligation to his successor to close that, and that’s why we’re going to do it,” White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough said. McDonough was not forthcoming when asked if Obama will work with Congress or just sidestep them. “The president just said he’s going to present a plan to Congress and work with Congress and then we’ll make some final determination,” McDonough said.
