The power of legislators and gun control is greater than the power of prayer.
That is the clear message from the New York Daily News, which displayed a giant headline across their front page reading "God Isn't Fixing This" along with the sub headline "As latest batch of innocent Americans are left lying in pools of blood, cowards who could truly end gun scourge continue to hide behind meaningless platitudes."
The article by Rich Schapiro, published just a day after the horrific San Bernardino mass shooting, begins with the phrase "Prayers aren't working" and goes on to criticize GOP presidential candidates who are asking for prayers for the victims, families, and first responders instead of supporting Obama's call for stricter gun control.
But Schapiro is far from alone in this thinking. Democratic Sen. Chris Murphy of Connecticut goes as far as to say to Republicans, “Your ‘thoughts’ should be about steps to take to stop this carnage. Your ‘prayers’ should be for forgiveness if you do nothing — again.”
In other words, Murphy's placing more blame for the attacks that killed 14 people on GOP lawmakers than on the killers themselves, who it appears more and more likely are linked to Islamic terrorism.
Schapiro slams GOP presidential candidates for following the same "tired script" of asking for prayer after a mass shooting, but he fails to mention how Obama repeats the same tired script of calling for more gun control shortly after each tragedy and before even the identity or motive of the killers are known. It is as if our president believes that weapons used in crimes are more important get a handle on than the criminals themselves.
But the true reason why we are seeing an ever increasing number of gut-wrenching mass murders in our country is simple: sin. In a country who's denizens have increasingly strayed from God, and where it's harder and harder to find people who have a truly transformative relationship with Christ, mankind is prone to give in to his fallen nature and commit great evil.
Despite these liberal journalists' and politicians' endless crusades to shift blame away from the perpetrators of evil, prayer IS the answer, and God is the only One who can heal our land.
