The American Family Association has amassed over 1.4 million signatures in a boycott against Target for their decision to allow men into the women’s bathrooms. A fresh outrage from another large company has set into motion another petition that is quickly gaining signatures.
Hilton Hotels recently released an advertisement in Travel and Leisure Magazine that offended many people. According to the Christian Post, the hotel chain’s advertisement features two men embracing each other while laying in bed under the covers together.
The offensive ad sparked outrage and the AFA has circulated a petition urging Hilton to “market responsibly.” Over 45,000 people have already signed the petition in less than one day since the petition started Thursday morning.
“If Hilton had advertised two men playing tennis, cards, or having lunch, that would have been reasonable,” AFA said in a statement. “However, Hilton chose to make a cultural and social statement by purposefully marketing the promotion of homosexuality to a large segment of the population who finds the idea of two men sleeping together unnatural and offensive.”
AFA also argues that the ad is irresponsible because the magazine is readily available in many stores and waiting rooms where families are often frequent and that the magazine “isn’t a gay-specific magazine sent directly to homosexual’s homes.”
Hilton’s explanation for the tasteless as was that they were “proud to depict and reflect our guest diversity in our advertising.”
