Disney Channel, a network dedicated specifically to exclusive Disney productions, is airing a new show tonight called ‘Andi Mack’.
Andi Mack revolves around a 13 year old girl’s life story. Just like any other preteen, she struggles with friendships, crushes, and family dilemmas.
The ending of the first episode, which is already available online, highlights an extremely controversial topic: teen pregnancy.
Andi's 'older sister', Bex, returns home after many years. Andi then discovers that her ‘mom’ is her grandma and her ‘older sister’ is actually her mother, who had Andi when she was a teenager.
Disney has highlighted more serious topics before including racism on 'That’s So Raven', eating disorders on 'Lizzie McGuire' and even incorporating gay couples into 'Good Luck Charlie' and the remake of 'Beauty and the Beast'.
What do you think about Disney’s incorporating teen pregnancy into one of their children’s shows?
