New York City families were heartbroken on December 28th after a deadly fire blazed through an apartment building in the Bronx. The flaming inferno tragically took the life of 12 people and injured several others.
One particular story that emerged from this tragedy is truly devastating—a young mom, Christine Batiz, lost the two most important people in her life as a result of the fire: her mother and her 8-month-old daughter.
Her infant daughter was determined to be the youngest victim, Amora Batiz. The baby's grandma, 58-year-old Maria Batiz, was the oldest victim.
Christine shared her heartbreaking story on a GoFundMe page, where she is raising funds for funeral costs.
The mom stated, “On december 28 2017 i got a phone call i never imagined to [receive]. I was at work and my mother was taking care of my 8 month year old daughter. She told me there was a fire in the building and she was trapped. I never heard from her again. Later on at around 1am i heard the news i never thought i would hear. I lost my angel baby and my bestfriend ; my mother.”
“The lady who birthed and would do anything for me is gone,” she continued. “I lost everything in a matter of minutes. One thing you know my daughter is playing with her new toys the next hour they are gone from my life.
"I appreciate all the support and help i have been given. This is a horrible tragedy and i wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy. My heart goes out to the rest of the families that are grieving.”
After sharing her story, the campaign skyrocketed and she, fortunately, raised more than $55,000. If you would like to donate, please visit the webpage here.
