Senator Marco Rubio became a household name during the 2016 election. Many people remember Rubio as a strong challenger to Donald Trump early in the year.
Although Rubio didn’t become the president, he has since become a powerful figure in Washington. Now, the U.S. has just found evidence that one of Venezuela’s leaders may have ordered people to assassinate Senator Rubio.
The breaking news comes after a shocking discovery was made. Rubio has since been under a tight security detail while in Washington and in Miami.
“One of Venezuela’s most powerful leaders may have put out an order to kill Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, a fervent critic of the South American country’s government, according to intelligence obtained by the U.S. last month,” reported the Miami Herald.
Diosdado Cabello is a powerful figure in Venezuela and thought to be a mastermind of crime and drug production. Rubio has previously referred to him as the “Pablo Escobar of Venezuela.”
Cabello has recently taken to Twitter to express his dislike for Rubio. He has even nicknamed him as “Narco Rubio.”
“The death threat was outlined in a memo to several law enforcement agencies disseminated last month by the Department of Homeland Security. The memo, designated “law enforcement sensitive” but not classified, was obtained by the Miami Herald,” reported the news outlet.
