A Michigan man did what he normally does when leaving for work on a cold, winter morning: He left his car heating up in his driveway so it would be cleared of ice by the time he was ready to leave.
But when he came back to his car, he was horrified to discover what someone had put on his windshield, according to ABC affiliate WXYZ.
What was it? A $128 ticket from the Roseville Police Department.
"I thought it was some kind of joke at first,” Taylor Trupiano said, “and then I was thrown back by it. I was really surprised."
He added, "I was in and out in probably about 7-8 minutes. So in that amount of time [the police officer] ran up here, gave me a ticket and by the time I got out he was nowhere to be seen."
The ticket was for leaving keys in the ignition of a running vehicle.
Roseville Police Chief James Berlin said, "We have five to ten cars stolen this way every winter. It's dangerous, and of course it drives everyone's insurance rates up. It drives our crime rates up."
A photo of the ticket that Trupiano posted on Facebook has generated thousands of comments.
