On Sunday, a tragedy occurred in Las Vegas when a gunman opened fire on a crowd at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. Reports are still coming in about the damage that was caused, but recent reports are claiming 58 deaths and 406 injuries.
This attack is the deadliest mass shooting in US history. The shooter, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, shot and killed himself before the SWAT team located him in his 32nd-floor hotel room.
When tragedies like these strike our nation, people should come together in prayer, support, and solitude. Earlier this morning, President Trump gave a speech about the power of love and unity in the midst of this type of darkness.
While unity should be the focus, some people have turned this situation into a political agenda. Earlier this morning, Hillary Clinton tweeted about the attack.
While her first statement was one of mourning, she quickly followed it with a political agenda. She used the situation to bring up the National Rifle Association and demand new legislation.
Former Vice President Joe Biden also brought politics into the tragedy. He focused on gun violence and said that it is time for Congress and the White House to bring about new legislation as well.
Now, reports have surfaced about a top legal executive at CBS News who just made a saddening statement. Hayley Geftman-Gold posted on her Facebook page about the tragedy and said that she has no sympathy for the victims.
According to the Daily Wire, Geftman-Gold made the following statement in regard to the Congressional action after Sandy Hook, in light of last night's Las Vegas shooting.
She said, "If they wouldn't do anything when children were murdered I have no hope that Repugs will ever do the right thing. I'm actually not even sympathetic bc country music fans often are Republican gun toters."
The post was quickly taken down, but Daily Caller took a screenshot of it. They also noted her Facebook profile page, which lists her employment as "VP, Senior Counsel, Strategic Transactions at CBS."
After reviewing the post, CBS swiftly took action. According to Fox News, the network fired Geftman-Gold.
They said, "This individual, who was with us for approximately one year, violated the standards of our company and is no longer an employee of CBS. Her views as expressed on social media are deeply unacceptable to all of us at CBS. Our hearts go out to the victims in Las Vegas and their families."
Please continue praying for everyone involved in this tragedy. Pray that our country would come together and for all of those injured. For more on this incident, read our latest article about the shocking details that were just revealed about the gunman's family.
