The leader of the Mormon church has passed away at age 90. Thomas S. Monson, the president, and prophet of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints has died.

It is being reported that Monson died on Tuesday night at around 10:00 PM. He was said to have been surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. We ask you, regardless of your religious beliefs, to please pray for his family during this difficult time.

"Monson had been at the helm of the 16 million-member Mormon church for nearly a decade and will be remembered as much for his personal ministry as for his aversion to grand pronouncements. He was a traditionalist without a bold agenda whose presence as a church leader faded as he aged. In recent years, he remained quiet as the church grappled with issues like ordaining women and baptizing children of gay couples," according to NPR.

Monson was very well liked by members of his church. Many took to social media to mourn his passing after the news broke. For Mormons, Monson was a staple at their general conference meetings where he had given many talks throughout the years.

World leaders and famous celebrities also weighed in on the passing of the LDS leader. Many had great things to say about him and were kind to offer their prayers to his family and friends. President Donald Trump also commented on his passing.

"Melania and I are deeply saddened by the death of Thomas S. Monson, a beloved President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While serving for over half a century in the leadership of his church, President Monson demonstrated wisdom, inspired leadership, and great compassion. Considered a prophet by the nearly 16 million members of the LDS Church, his message was one of optimism, forgiveness, and faith. Our thoughts and prayers are with his three children and the rest of the Monson family," according to an official statement from the White House.

The tradition of the Mormon church now puts the senior-most leader as the president. Russel M. Nelson, a former heart surgeon, is set to take over at age 93. What do you think about this?
