Lady Gaga opened up on Tuesday about the recent health struggles she has been facing. The singer confirmed that the chronic pain she has been dealing with is caused by fibromyalgia.
On September 22, the Netflix documentary “Gaga: Five Foot Two” will be released. The documentary will shed light on the illness she has been battling.
“In our documentary the #chronicillness #chronicpain I deal w/ is #Fibromyalgia,” she wrote. “I wish to help raise awareness & connect people who have it.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, fibromyalgia is a disorder characterized by widespread musculoskeletal pain accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Researchers believe that fibromyalgia amplifies painful sensations by affecting the way your brain processes pain signals.
Symptoms sometimes begin after a physical trauma, surgery, infection or significant psychological stress. In other cases, symptoms gradually accumulate over time with no single triggering event, as stated on the Mayo Clinic website.
After experiencing an injury while on tour last year, Lady Gaga has been open about dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder. She has also been an advocate for thousands of other people who suffer from similar illnesses.
