Trinity Academy in Wichita, Kansas, holds very high standards for the families of students in its private Christian school, and that includes denying enrollment to or expelling any student who has an LGBT family member living in their home.
According to Christian Today, the policy also applies to relatives, not part of a student's immediate family, who are permitted to live in the same home as them.
Trinity defended its policy against a backlash of recent criticism, saying, "when the atmosphere or conduct within a particular home is counter to the school's understanding of a biblical lifestyle, including the practice or promotion of the LGBT lifestyle or alternative gender identity, the school should have the right, in its sole discretion, to deny the admission of an applicant or discontinue enrollment of a current student."
The policy clearly states, "Given the debate and confusion in our society about marriage and human sexuality it is vital that Trinity families agree with and support the school's traditional, Christian understanding of those issues."
