"Dear @John Kerry: The US House of Representatives just passed the Genocide resolution, unanimously, 393 to 0! Will you do your part, now?" Roma Downey tweeted on Monday night.
The atrocities done against Christians by the Islamic state are horrendous. They have had many, including Franklin Graham, pleading with the U.S. government to acknowledge the criminal plan to wipe out Christians in the Middle East. But until now, the White House and its State Department have refused.
Calling it genocide is important because it gives impetus for the U.S. to defend Middle Eastern Christians--and because it's the truth. Failing to call it by what it is turns our back on what is happening and dishonors the victims.
Thankfully, Kerry admitted the atrocities are genocide on Thursday morning, reports The Christian Post. "My purpose in appearing before you today is to assert that in my judgement, Daesh [Arabic acronym for IS] is responsible for genocide against groups in areas under its control, including Yazidis, Christians and Shia Muslims," Kerry said during a 9 a.m. press conference. "Daesh is genocidal by self-proclamation, by ideology and by actions — in what it says, what it believes and what it does."
Praise God for this recognition! And thank you to Roma Downey, Franklin Graham, and all the many others who have been fighting for the defense of Middle Eastern Christians. Let's pray they are saved from further harm!
