“No one’s in any trouble,” an officer assures the family as the video begins, asking them if the cake dispute has been resolved.
After the Burkes tell him, yes, the cake is on the floor now, he turns around to talk to someone for a minute as Cameron’s son cries uncontrollably.
“Daddy, I feel scared,” his daughter tells him.
“I don’t see any wrongdoing,” the officer lets the family know as he turns back around. “No one’s in any trouble. Unfortunately, it got reported to us. No one did anything wrong. Everyone’s going to be OK.”
But then he let them know, “[JetBlue] is going to, unfortunately, they’re going to have to rebook everyone.”
That’s when the airline had everyone got off the plane so that the Burkes could be removed. They were immediately refunded in the terminal but claim they were never given a clear explanation for why they’d been kicked off the flight.
Cameron said he never raised his voice during the incident and that other passengers were on his side.
But after the video went viral this weekend, according to the “Today” show, JetBlue released an announcement saying, “During the boarding, the customers stowed their cake and other items in an overhead bin reserved for safety and emergency equipment, and refused multiple request from the crew to remove the items.”
They added, “The customers became agitated, cursed and yelled at the crew, and made false accusations about a crewmember’s fitness to fly.”
