Christian Headlines reports that the daughter of an imprisoned American pastor just made an impassioned plea for her father's release. She made her plea during a testimony at the U.S. Helsinki Commission hearing this week, claiming that her father had been wrongfully jailed in a Turkish prison.
She is hoping that Congress will swiftly act in order to free her father, pastor Andrew Brunson. In this effort, daughter Jacqueline Furnari is joined by the American Center for Law and Justice in asking that Congress quickly secure the release of this pastor.
"My husband and I decided to have a civil ceremony and to postpone our wedding until my father is home," Furnari said, according to Christian Headlines. "I'm still waiting for my wedding. I'm still waiting to wear that wedding dress that I got almost a year and a half ago.
"I'm still waiting for my dad to walk me down the aisle, and I'm still waiting for that father-daughter dance," she continued.
You can watch the plea in the video below.
According to CBN, Brunson is facing charges of espionage, acquiring secret political and military information, and attempting to destroy constitutional order and overthrowing Turkish parliament. On top of that, he is charged with alleged membership in an armed terroristic organization. Currently, the American pastor denies all of the allegations thrown at him.
Brunson remarked that his reason for living in Turkey for the past 23 years was for the purpose of telling locals about Jesus Christ. Both President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence have requested that the pastor is released, but the government has refused to accommodate their requests.
The pastor has remarked that he has "no idea" what crime he has committed.
The pastor's daughter has remarked that while her father has been in prison, he has lost over 50 pounds. He has also lost important time with his family that can never be replaced. She hopes that he will be able to return back to the United States.
"While Pastor Brunson has been in prison, he has lost over 50 pounds; he has lost precious time with his family that can never be replaced, and worst of all, he has lost all hope, wondering why Turkey, a NATO ally and a country that he has loved and served for over two decades, has been able to hold him hostage, an innocent United States citizen, for over a year," she said.
Christian Headlines reports that the ACLJ has a petition calling for the pastor's release. Roughly 400,000 people have signed it.
In breaking news, a popular Fox News host was just charged with a 119 mph speeding ticket.
