There are many Bible verses regularly prayed for in regards to our nation. 2 Chronicles 7:14 is one: "Then if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land."
Or Proverbs 14:34: "Godliness makes a nation great, but sin is a disgrace to any people."
But a verse *not* often applied to America? "An eye for an eye..." That's the verse Donald Trump said is among his favorites in an interview with WHAM 1180AM. The Christian Post reports that Trump explained his choice by saying: "That's not a particularly nice thing. But you know, if you look at what's happening to our country, I mean, when you see what's going on with our country, how people are taking advantage of us, and how they scoff at us and laugh at us."
"And they laugh at our face," he continued, "and they're taking our jobs, they're taking our money, they're taking the health of our country. And we have to be very firm and have to be very strong. And we can learn a lot from the Bible, that I can tell you."
An eye for an eye was a principle in the Old Testament. But Jesus came and said something completely revolutionary to that: "You have heard the law that says the punishment must match the injury: 'An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth.' But I say, do not resist an evil person! If someone slaps you on the right cheek, offer the other cheek also" (Matthew 5:39).
