As Florida prepares for the inevitable destruction that Hurricane Irma will bring, many areas have been determined as "evacuation zones." Now, several of Trump's properties are within the evacuation zones.
The hurricane is expected to make landfall on US mainland over the weekend. According to the National Weather Service, the entire tip of Southern Florida should be prepared for the "life-threatening" storm surge and 145 mph winds.
Evacuations are set up by flood zones. Among Zone A, the highest level of priority, are many Trump properties. At least four properties are under evacuation order including Trump Grande, Trump Towers, Trump Hollywood, and Mar-a-Lago. Several others are also closed as a precautionary measure.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez said, "Evacuees should move as soon as possible to the homes of friends or family who live outside of evacuation areas."
Mar-a-Lago is coined as the "winter White House." Since taking office, President Trump has visited the property 7 times.
The 1920s estate has survived several hurricanes, but Irma could change that. Before this, the largest damage a hurricane had caused the property was $17 million in 2005. The club is anchored by steel beams, helping it to withstand storms.
Other Trump properties that are closing are the Trump International Golf Club, the Palm Beach, and the Trump National Golf Club. Trump authorities are advising visitors to cancel their reservations at Trump National Doral as well, promising to waive all fees.
Trump property officials said that they want to make sure everyone is kept safe and that they will continue to pray for everyone in the path of Hurricane Irma.
