Homeless Man in Detroit Accepts Credit Card Donations On The Spot

Forget the pocket change. Just swipe.

According to CBS Detroit, Abe "Honest Abe" Hagenston has brought something new to the panhandling industry to increase efficiency.

Instead of just asking for cash on the streets on Detroit, Abe allows donations from credit and debit cards via a card reader attached to his smartphone.

“I take VISA, MasterCard, American Express,” Abe said. “I’m the only homeless guy in America who can take a credit card. It’s all done safely and securely through square.com.”

Even with transaction fees, it's well worth it to Abe to offer passerbys an electronic option. Abe, who has been homeless for seven years, also shovels snow for extra money.

Do you see him as an innovative entrepreneur, or does the idea of handing a panhandler your credit card seem way too risky?
