31-year-old Casey Anthony, who gained nationwide attention in 2011 when she was acquitted of murder, kept a low-profile following her trial and release from prison. She was initially charged with murdering her 2-year-old daughter, Caylee, and sparked a massive amount of outrage from the community when she was acquitted, forcing her to lay low. However, 9 years later, her name has gradually come back into the spotlight.
Earlier this year, rumors circulated that she would appear in a reality television show with former NFL star O.J. Simpson, who was also acquitted of murder—originally charged with murdering his ex-wife Nicole Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman—in a case that received high media attention. The TV show, if actually produced, would follow their lives after the high-profile court cases, reported Fox.
Anthony’s parents, George and Cindy, were highly involved in their daughter’s murder trial, since Anthony first claimed that her father was the one who disposed of Caylee’s remains and he molested her as a child—which he denied both claims. Despite stacks of evidence against Anthony and multiple suspicious details (Anthony disappearing with Caylee for a month, lying about her daughter being with a mysterious nanny, originally not reporting the 2-year-old missing, and later admitting she hadn’t seen her child for weeks), her parents came to her defense and believed in her innocence.
However, later they suggested that she was mentally ill and implied that she was guilty of something in relation to her daughter's death. Recently, George and Cindy appeared in a media interview where they responded to the possibility of their daughter being on a reality TV show. Anthony’s parents said, “if it came down to that,” they would take legal action.
Although Cindy still keeps in contact with her daughter, George keeps his distance from Anthony. Apparently, he has seen 2-year-old Caylee several times after she died, “I’ve seen [Caylee] in my house. One time she woke me up in the morning, tapping on with her little finger like she used to do. It wasn’t a dream...a strong spirit in our house.”
When asked if his daughter was a killer, he responded—with hesitation, “I don’t think she intentionally wanted to [kill her]...but she should be in jail because of Caylee not being here.”
According to PEOPLE, Anthony reacted to her parents’ recent media interviews with an “eye roll.” One source told PEOPLE that Anthony has moved on and “Casey just rolled her eyes at the things [her parents] tell the media.”
Another source stated, “For Casey, it was like, ‘whatever.’ They have always been critical of her, even from the time she was a girl. So why would anything change now? She feels like they’ve never truly been supportive of her.”
This news comes shortly after Anthony’s former lawyer, 55-year old Todd Macaluso, was found guilty of drug trafficking. He is currently facing a minimum of 3 years prison time and a maximum of life in prison.
