On Wednesday, Governor Chris Christie opened up about how he got a direct phone line to President Obama. Some were surprised to hear about it since Christie campaigned so hard against Obama during the campaign in 2012.
Christie said on "Morning Joe" that Obama called Christie to ask if he would be "uncomfortable" with a presidential visit in the wake of the storm, since Christie had been campaigning against Obama with GOP nominee Mitt Romney, according to the Washington Examiner.
"That day, when Barack Obama came, he handed me a piece of paper with a private phone number on it, and he said, 'You call this any time, day or night, and you will get me,'" Christie said. “He changed it on me after he got re-elected," Christie joked.
However, what impressed Christie was that when he made the call, he actually used it. During Superstorm Sandy, when the people of New Jersey were in desperate need of help, Christie made a call and got President Obama to help organize aid for the state.
"We both understood, even though I was out on the campaign trail beating the bejesus out of him on the behalf of Mitt Romney, right up until the Saturday before the storm, but we both understood that we have a job to do," Christie said.
A great working relationship, no matter political affiliations, is truly important in times of need. Recently, we have seen President Trump visit Texas and offer support to all the officials of the Lone Star State.
