Google software engineer James Damore was fired on Monday for a memo criticizing the company’s left-liberal “ideological echo chamber” that alienates conservatives.
The decision to fire Damore came in the aftermath of a liberal outrage on social media calling for the employee's termination. Claiming that Damore's memo was sexist and perpetuating gender stereotypes, liberals and feminists throughout the country angrily called for his termination.
Google CEO Sundar Pichai, under the pressure of criticism, then released a company-wide notice remarking that the engineer violated the company’s Code of Conduct. Soon thereafter Damore's dismissal was confirmed.
In his criticism of Google, Damore criticized the company’s diversity initiatives and suggested that the company advocates for meritocracy. He further suggested that the lack of women in the tech industry is not due to sexism but rather due to psychological variances.
“I’m simply stating that the distribution of preferences and abilities of men and women differ in part due to biological causes and that these differences may explain why we don’t see equal representation of women in tech and leadership,” wrote James Damore according to Fox News.
Fox News reports that the memo argued men are more likely to value “things” whereas women are more likely to value “people.”
Furthermore, the memo states that women have more openness to “feelings and aesthetics rather than ideas,” whereas men have a “higher drive for status.”
Damore also criticized Google’s effort to teach its employees about gender diversity and microaggressions, writing that “microaggression training incorrectly and dangerously equates speech with violence and isn’t backed by evidence.”
"Portions of the memo violate our Code of Conduct and cross the line by advancing harmful gender stereotypes in our workplace,” wrote the Google CEO as justification for the employee's termination. “Our job is to build great products for users that make a difference in their lives. To suggest a group of our colleagues have traits that make them less biologically suited to that work is offensive and not OK. It is contrary to our basic values and our Code of Conduct, which expects ‘each Googler to do their utmost to create a workplace culture that is free of harassment, intimidation, bias and unlawful discrimination.”
Breitbart reports that Damore’s termination reveals a divide in Google, in which some conservative employees agree with Damore but are afraid to speak out for fear of repercussions from liberals within the company.
In other news, while liberals are outraged at Damore for challenging Google's liberal ideological echo-chamber, they were also recently outraged at Caitlyn Jenner for a piece of clothing that she wore. Read more about why liberals were outraged at Jenner here.
