What President Trump did Wednesday morning perfectly illustrates why conservatives wanted him in office--and why liberals hated the thought. In a three series tweet, Trump announced that transgenders would no longer be accepted in the military.
“After consultation with my Generals and military experts, please be advised that the United States Government will not accept or allow transgender individuals to serve in any capacity in the U.S. Military," he said in his strong statement. "Our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail. Thank you.”
The news has been met with strong reactions from both sides, largely with liberals decrying the move and conservatives applauding it. Here in a Facebook post, Franklin Graham hails the President for his bold decision.
Others have not been as supportive. One LGBT activist who advised former President Clinton on gays serving in uniform threatened a fight with Trump that he would surely lose. Richard Socarides called the transgender ban “a tragic betrayal of all LGBT Americans and a shameful effort to win over social conservatives at the expense of the vulnerable." He went on to warn, "But, what Trump will now learn: Don't mess with us. This gets him a fight he will not win.”
