A McDonald’s drive-thru worker in the Miami area was serving an off-duty officer and her two kids when he noticed the officer struggling to breathe.
According to Local 10 ABC News, the woman started to lose consciousness, causing her foot to slip off her brake pedal and sending the SUV moving forward with two helpless kids in the back.
That’s when the worker, Pedro Viloria, sprang into action. Quite literally. Video surveillance footage captured him leaping clear through the drive-thru window in a single bound.
"[I thought,] 'Oh my God, this woman is unconscious,’” recalled Viloria. “‘I've got to do something, because she's going to crash, maybe.'"
The officer’s car thankfully missed another vehicle before Viloria could get to it. The SUV came to rest safely against a curb.
Viloria rushed back into the restaurant to get help, and an off-duty Miami-Dade Fire Rescue paramedic ran to assist the woman. With help from responding police officers, the paramedic was able to use CPR and a portable defibrillator to revive her.
Viloria doesn’t think he’s a hero for leaping into action so quickly, though.
"The real heroes are the fire rescuers," he said.
But we praise the Lord for him and those who responded rapidly to save this law enforcement officer.
The officer’s condition, or the cause of her health episode, has not been released.
