Val Kilmer has been a major Hollywood name for decades. He rose to fame during the 1980s and was even in the iconic movie "Top Gun." Now, Kilmer is making headlines again for a sad reason.
He was recently seen in an interview sharing his struggle about battling throat cancer. The disease has significantly changed his voice and even his throat. He was recently also seen with a tracheostomy. He also opened up about how cancer has changed him in a positive way.
"A two-year battle with throat cancer has taken its toll, and a procedure on his trachea has reduced his voice to a rasp and rendered him short of breath," according to The Hollywood Reporter.
For years, Val denied having cancer and would not confirm the rumors, even when fellow stars said he was sick. Now, it appears Kilmer is finally opening up about the diagnosis.
"Fame is sort of a mess," says Val. "You get treated differently, but it doesn’t have anything to do with who you actually are." He went on to say how he now realizes that he was "too serious" before he was diagnosed.
