The world famous rock band, Green Day, has been criticized for allowing their concert to continue after an aerial dancer died moments before they took the stage. It all happened at the Mad Cool Festival in Madrid, Spain.

The dancer, who was performing an aerial feat while dancing inside a suspended cube, had a tragic accident. Somehow, he slipped from the cube and plummeted over 100 feet to his death.

Reports show that officials tried for over a half hour to revive him but were unsuccessful. He fell in front of thousands of people just moments before Green Day took the stage.

The rock band has now spoken out in defense of their actions. They said they were actually unaware of what had just occurred.

“Many of you are wondering why we continued to play our show after the accident,” Joe Armstrong explained in a statement obtained by PEOPLE and posted on Green Day’s website. “Green Day did not hear about the accident until after our show was over. We didn’t even know there was an acrobat performance at all.”

“These festivals are huge. There are so many things happening at the same time it’s impossible to keep up with every performer/artist,” he continued.

Armstrong also went on to say the band had been delayed from taking the stage for about 15 minutes because they had been told there was a security issue. He said no one told them a man had just died.

“Security issues are a normal occurrence and procedure at any show. We were NOT told why which is also normal. We waited as we were instructed,” Armstrong said. “Still, we had no clue there was any such accident.”

“We got off stage and drove back to our artist compound. It was there when we were told the shocking news about Pedro,” he said. “All of us were in disbelief. I don’t know why the authorities chose not to tell us about the accident before our concert. All we know is what was said after our concert,” he said.

Please join us in prayer for this poor man’s family after such a tragic loss. Let us know on Facebook if you think the festival’s organizers should have canceled the event.
