In August, Christian Hollywood couple Chris Pratt and Anna Faris announced that they were going to legally separate. The beloved couple shocked their fans, as their relationship had been seemingly smooth for 8 years.
Pratt and Faris shared a joint statement to announce the split. They said that they worked hard at their relationship and that they were disappointed with the way things ended. They also said that they were going to work hard to protect their son, who was four at the time.
They said, "Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another."
Now, two months after the couple's separation, Anna is opening up about the other hardships that her son, Jack, has gone through. In her new memoir, "Unqualified," the actress talks about her son's birth and the "emotionally exhausting" health issues that he experienced in the first several weeks of his life.
Jack was born several weeks premature. Faris said that the doctors warned that her son could experience long-term negative effects due to the early birth.
She wrote, "The pediatric neurosurgeon sat Chris and me down to tell us that Jack had some severe brain bleeding and there was a chance that he could be developmentally disabled."
Faris said that she and Pratt had to come to terms with the fact that their son could have serious health issues. They knew that they had to stay strong.
She wrote, "I was in complete shock … So Chris and I did what we could, which was hold hands and hope and face it together...I have to be as strong as I possibly can … I have to.”
The doctors told the couple that they would not know about the state of Jack's health until he was about 18 months old. For several weeks following his birth, Jack had to stay in the neonatal intensive care unit for tests.
Faris wrote about how the experience influenced her relationship with Chris Pratt.
She said, "These moments can be hard on couples, but for us it really brought us together. It felt like it was us against the world.”
The couple was finally able to take Jack home after over a month in the hospital. Faris said that the years that followed, though filled with uncertainty, consisted of mostly healthy growth for her son, with only "slight vision and leg muscle issues."
Faris wrote, "Today, Jack is at a beautiful age. He has some temper tantrums occasionally (did I mention he’s 5?) but he’s a really good kid and he’s happy and delicious and likes cuddles."
Since their split, Chris and Anna have placed their attention solely on their son. Faris said, "We have the most amazing little boy together."
Though it is upsetting that the Hollywood couple is not together anymore, we are thankful that their son is in good health after an extreme scare.
