Hurricane Harvey has brought extreme devastation since making landfall. In the wake of the destruction, several celebrities and politicians have been donating large sums of money for relief efforts. Now, dozens of famous celebrities are joining forces to raise even more money.
On September 12, several celebrities will appear in a one-hour telethon event to raise money for the victims. "Hand in Hand: A Benefit for Hurricane Harvey Relief" will air live at 8 p.m. ET.
The telecast will originate in Universal Studios, Times Square, and the Grand Ole Opry. At one point, the telecast will feature George Strait live in concert at the Majestic Theater in San Antonio, Texas.
Other celebrities that will join the telethon are Beyonce, Blake Shelton, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey, Jamie Foxx, Rob Lowe, Matthew McConaughey, Dennis Quaid, Ryan Seacrest, and Kelly Rowland.
The benefit was created by music manager and producer Scooter Braun's SB Projects. Braun and his wife, Allison Kaye, will serve as executive producers for the show.
The show will appear on ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, and CMT. The proceeds from the event will be distributed to various charities helping with relief. Some of the organizations include United Way of Greater Houston, Habitat for Humanity, Save the Children, Feeding Texas, and the Mayor's Fund for Hurricane Harvey Relief.
