The Gerber Baby has been a mainstay of the baby food company since an infant’s cooing face was chosen after a contest in 1927. Now the company has made history again by choosing an 18-month-old Down syndrome baby from Dalton, Georgia to be their model.
After Gerber launched another contest for a 2018 baby, according to the Huffington Post, photos of over 140,000 babies were entered.
Gerber announced their winner on Facebook Wednesday, posting a photo of 18-month-old Lucas Warren with the caption, “Congratulations to our 2018 Gerber Spokesbaby, Lucas! Welcome to the family! Join us in sending love to baby Lucas! #AnythingForBaby.”
Gerber president Bill Partyka added, “Lucas’ winning smile and joyful expression won our hearts this year, and we are all thrilled to name him our 2018 Spokesbaby. Every year, we choose the baby who best exemplifies Gerber’s longstanding heritage of recognizing that every baby is a Gerber baby, and this year, Lucas is the perfect fit.”
His mom Cortney was overjoyed, saying, “This is such a proud moment for us as parents knowing that Lucas has a platform to spread joy, not only to those he interacts with every day, but to people all over the country.”
She continued, “We hope this opportunity sheds light on the special needs community and educates people that with acceptance and support, individuals with special needs have the potential to change the world ― just like our Lucas!”
Just take a look at his smile:

Awwwww! In other news, Vice President Pence won’t be able to do his keynote speech for a national prayer event, so a Philadelphia Eagles player will fill in for him.
