Award-winning actress Meryl Streep was recently under fire for staying silent during the Harvey Weinstein sex scandal. Streep, who worked with Weinstein on various occasions, previously claimed that she “had no idea” about the sexual assault incidents concerning the ex-Hollywood producer.
Unlike many other powerful women in Hollywood who were taking part in the #MeToo movement, Streep kept quiet—and people noticed. As a result, posters containing photos of Streep and Weinstein were plastered all around Hollywood with the caption “She Knew.”
In a recent interview with the New York Times, the actress attempted to save herself by shifting the focus onto Melania and Ivanka Trump. She blasted the Trump women for not speaking up.
"I don't want to hear about the silence of me. I want to hear about the silence of Melania Trump. I want to hear from her,” Streep said. “She has so much that's valuable to say. And so does Ivanka. I want her to speak now.”
Donald Trump Jr. came to his family’s defense on Thursday morning, and additionally, accused Streep of knowing about Weinstein’s inappropriate actions.
On Twitter, he stated, “Amazing that the only person in all of Hollywood who didn’t know Weinstein was a serial assaulter (of course she did) has an opinion on this.”
