“Kasich shouldn’t be allowed to run,” Trump said to reporters on Sunday at a diner in Milwaukee. “He hurts Trump much more than he hurts Cruz.”
Behind Trump’s statement is the fact that Kasich has no possible way of winning the nomination outright. He needs more delegates than are available. According to CNN, it is mathematically impossible for Kasich to win the nomination.
In order for Kasich to win the nomination he would have to steal it away from the will of the majority of Republican voters in a contested convention. “Kasich shouldn’t be allowed to continue,” Trump said, “and the RNC shouldn’t allow him to continue.
“Why is this guy allowed to run?” Trump asked. “All he’s doing is he goes from place to place, and loses and he keeps running. He doesn’t have to run and take my votes. Because he’s taking my votes. He’s not taking Cruz’s votes.”
Kasich responded that he is staying in the race precisely because he is taking Trump’s votes.
Do you agree with Trump that Kasich, with no mathematical chance at winning the nomination outright, should drop out of the race?
