Details have just been released about the shooter from the deadly Las Vegas shooting. The incident is now believed to be the worst mass shooting in U.S. history, according to police.

Stephen Paddock, 64, is the man who police have identified as the suspected shooter. Paddock is suspected of injuring more than 500 people and killing at least 58 concertgoers on Sunday night.

The horrific incident took place after a gunman opened fire into a crowd of 20,000 people attending the Route 91 Harvest Music Festival in Las Vegas. The suspected shooter, who was on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino when he opened fire, is believed to have used an automatic or semi-atomic weapon. Witnesses of the attack described it as “nonstop gunfire.”

After finding “numerous firearms” in the hotel room of Paddock at Mandalay Bay, police found the suspect dead. Reports say he died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The motive behind this horrific event is not known at this time. According to police, Paddock had no criminal history besides a minor citation.

He lived in Mesquite, Nevada with his girlfriend, Marilou Danley. She was out of the country at the time of the shooting and is not believed to have been involved in the incident.

According to reports, Paddock was a private pilot and also a licensed hunter. He was once employed by a company that is now known as Lockheed Martin, one of the largest defense contractors. He is believed to have been an accountant or auditor.

"Stephen Paddock worked for a predecessor company of Lockheed Martin from 1985 until 1988," the company said in a statement to ABC. "We’re cooperating with authorities to answer questions they may have about Mr. Paddock and his time with the company."

This tragedy comes as a shock to many people, including the brother of Paddock. “We have no idea how or why this happened,” said Eric Paddock, the brother of the suspected shooter. “As far as we know, Steve was perfectly fine.”
