A tragedy occurred on Sunday night when a gunman opened fire on a crowd at the Route 91 Harvest Festival in Las Vegas. The shooting took place near the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino on the Las Vegas strip during a Jason Aldean concert.

The shooter, 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, was shooting from a 32nd-floor room at the Mandalay Bay hotel. When the SWAT team breached his room, Paddock was found dead.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Undersheriff Kevin McMahill said that Paddock died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. They said that the gunman was in possession of over 10 rifles.

Now, police are investigating the situation and learning more information about the shooter and his motives. Paddock's brother has responded to the situation, saying that there was no indication the gunman would attempt something like this and that it was most likely not politically or religiously motivated.

Since the incident, several areas on the Las Vegas strip are still on lockdown. Several hours after Paddock was found, police located his roommate, Marilou Danley.

After being detained as a "person of interest," the police department has said that they no longer believe that she had anything to do with the incident. They are calling the attack a "lone wolf" incident.

Over the course of the night, the death toll and number of people injured continued to increase. Now, with reports claiming at least 50 dead and at least 400 injured, this attack is marked as the deadliest mass shooting in US history.

CNN created a list of the ten deadliest single-day mass shootings in modern US history. The Las Vegas attack resulted in the most deaths, with at least 50 killed.

The second deadliest attack took place at Pulse nightclub on June 12, 2016, resulting in 49 deaths. The Virginia Tech massacre that took place in April 2007 resulted in 32 deaths.

After the Las Vegas tragedy, President Trump and the White House responded to the shooting. Officials are still investigating the situation. Continue to check back throughout the day for more information as it is released.
