A major recall has been issued after it has been discovered that a popular household item may be a safety risk. 168,000 ceiling fans have been recalled due to the potential risk.
Hunter has recalled the fans due to an "impact injury hazard." The company has received 40 reports of the light globe falling off which could have led to a serious injury.
Thankfully at this time, no injuries have been reported. 38 of the reports come from the U.S. and two from Canada.
The recall involves Hunter Contempt ceiling fan models 59176 and 59174. The label with the model number can be found on top of the motor housing.
Model 59176 comes with cherry and dark walnut blades, while model 59174 cones with light gray oak and gray walnut blades.
This recall comes after incorrect instructions were included with the ceiling fans.
The fans affected by this recall were sold from January 2016 through August 2017 at Costco stores across the nation and also online at Costco.com. They were sold for about $130. The statement regarding the recall also mentions that refurbished fans are also included in the recall and were sold during the same time through eBay, Amazon, and Groupon.
While the only fix for this recall is receiving new instructions, the company has offered a solution. Hunter encourages consumers of this recalled fan to check that the globe light is installed correctly by turning it clockwise until it is resting firmly in place.
Be sure and check if you have one of these fans and make sure your light is properly installed! Let us know your thoughts on this on our Facebook page! In other recent news, Roy Moore reveals the reason why he refuses to acknowledge the Alabama loss.
