Duck Dynasty Stars, Huckabee Rally for Houston Pastors

Conservatives in Houston have decided to take a stand for First Amendment religious freedoms.

An event called "I Stand Sunday" is being organized for November 2, just days before the national midterm elections. The intent of the gathering is to publicly support the five Houston pastors whose sermons were subpoenaed by Houston city officials earlier this month.

Among those who will be in attendance are former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, both Alan and Phil Robertson of "Duck Dynasty" fame, and Southern Baptist Convention President Ronnie Floyd.

Event leaders want supporters to know that the stand they are taking goes beyond the same-sex marriage issue.

"This is not about speeches, not about sermons, not about teachings even on biblical morality as to homosexuality, it is about intimidation," said Tony Perkins, President of the Family Research Council, in a recent Christian Post article. "This is about political intimidation and it is about the mayor using the bully pulpit to try and silence the pulpits of Houston."

Houston's mayor, Annise Parker, maintains that it was never the intent of the city of Houston to intrude on matters of faith.

The event will be held at Grace Church in Houston and will be webcast nation wide. Sponsors of the event include the Family Research Council and Alliance Defending Freedom; the latter being the legal organization that is defending Donald and Evelyn Knapp of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

The I Stand Sunday website says, "We will stand with pastors and churches in Houston who have been unduly intimidated by the city's mayor in demanding they hand over private church communication."
