George Lopez, a comedian known for his ABC television show "George Lopez," just became the latest anti-Trump celebrity to say something ridiculous. On Saturday, he posted his Instagram a picture of himself with the text, "The Trump Administration is deporting Latinos to make the streets safe...You wanna make the streets safer deport the police."
People—those who support the men and women who put their lives on the line so that we can live in peace—were not impressed. One Instagram user, tu_papi_iggy, a fellow Latino, shot back at Lopez.
"When you use your platform as a platform for ignorant statements such as this you become part of the problem @georgelopez. I am an immigrant from Sinaloa, Mexico and I'm in law enforcement as well as my brother and sisters are and your statement just continues to divide us instead of uniting us. Very sad to see someone that I admired stoop to this level"
People on Twitter also called Lopez out on his "stupidity."
He later tried to play it off as a joke about the band The Police, saying, "Hope this clears up any misunderstanding. Comedy has a way of healing , but I also realize it can hurt too, so let's let cooler heads prevail." People still weren't impressed. Lopez may have tried to backtrack, but he still insulted law enforcement officers and he didn't even properly apologize.
