Church Faced With BACKLASH Of Criticism For THIS 'Offensive' Sign
It seems like a very basic and obvious tenant of Christianity, but what one pastor wrote on the reader board in front of his church has liberals — and even the mayor — shrieking in horror.
According to KATU, Pastor Michael Harrington of Belmont Drive Missionary Baptist Church in Hood River, Oregon has posted two messages: "Wake up Christians. Allah is not our God. Muhammad not greater than Jesus" and "Only the Bible is God's Word. 'Holy book' Koran is just another book."
Those messages upset locals and led to accusations of Harrington being an ugly bigot and practically a terrorist. And the mayor of Hood River was right in the thick of the criticism.
Mayor Paul Blackburn said of the signs, "I was really annoyed and sad. I am annoyed that in this political season there's a solid case of ugly going on. I think it norms up this kind of behavior like 'Oh, it's okay to be a bigot now.'"
"I was profoundly upset and offended by it," said cyclist Eric Cohn who was biking by and was stopped in his track by the sign.
72-year-old Harrington was also surprised but what someone wrote about him in a local newspaper piece, saying, "This one guy wrote in here that I'm a terrorists almost. You ought to see what he put in here!"
But the pastor said he's planning to keep up the messages all month as planned.
He added, "I'm not politically correct. I've never been politically correct, but I think I'm biblically correct and that's what matters to me."
