Chuck Schumer Claims to Speak for the Dead in Las Vegas Shooting

If you were a betting person, and you bet that it would take less than a day for top Democrats to call for more gun control after the horrific Las Vegas attack on Sunday, then it’d be foolish for anyone to take that bet. As with most every other mass shooting in the U.S., the Democrats are going full bore on trying to solve the problem with stricter laws rather than focusing on the root causes of evil-gone-rampant in our society.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer is fully onboard the take-our-guns-away train. On Thursday, Schumer — who actually is related to liberal comedian Amy Schumer, in case you didn’t know — stood up on the Senate floor and claimed to speak for the dead in the Vegas shooting.

Conservative radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh played an audio clip of Schumer’s speech where he said, “If we could talk to those brave souls who were killed and are now in heaven, they would say, ‘Do something.’ They wouldn’t say, ‘Let’s wait.’”

“President Trump, are you gonna wait to hear what the NRA says first?” Schumer asked rhetorically. “You fashion yourself as a strong man. Well, are you gonna show that you are not beholden to anyone now? Are you gonna show your strength now? Are you gonna be the first president, Republican president in a generation, to buck the NRA?”

He then went on to call for a banning of a device that allowed Stephen Paddock’s semi-automatic guns to fire faster, saying, “I say to President Trump, come out and say that you support and would sign a law to ban bump stocks.”

But the NRA actually called for more restrictions on bump stocks days ago, according to ABC News. Limbaugh also pointed out the irony of Schumer’s statement.

“You know what I feel like doing?” Limbaugh said. “I feel like doing a monologue addressing all of those babies who’ve been killed by Planned Parenthood and asking them what they would be saying, if they could speak. They would be saying, ‘Do something. Shut down Planned Parenthood.’ There are over a million abortions a year in the United States of America, dwarfing the number of homicides every year.”

“Let’s tell you who’s beholden to Planned Parenthood,” Limbaugh continued. “That’s the Democrat Party. The Democrat Party and every other faction of the Democrat Party is beholden to Planned Parenthood far more than anybody is beholden to the NRA.

But then he added a punchline, saying, “You know, folks, on second thought, it may not be all that strange that Senator Schumer thinks that he can speak with and for the dead, because we know that the dead routinely vote for the Democrats every two or four years.”

Schumer also claimed that most survivors of the Las Vegas shooting would be in favor of more gun control if you asked them. Meanwhile, Hillary Clinton’s former running mate Tim Kaine is getting hit with a tsunami of ridicule for doubling-down on what she said in response to the Vegas shooting.

According to the Washington Post, Kaine said, “[The shooter] was only stopped finally because he did not have a silencer on his weapon. And the sound drew people to the place where he was ultimately stopped. Can you imagine what this would have been if he had silencers on these weapons?”

Even the left-leaning Post fact-checked Kaine’s statement on Wednesday to show how off-base it was. First, they pointed out that silencers are rarely ever used by criminals, so banning them wouldn’t have much of an effect. Second, they explained that a suppressor on the types of weapons Stephen Paddock had in his hotel room would not reduce their volume by even 25 percent.

Police were able to locate Paddock, not based on the trajectory of the sound of his gunfire, which was echoing all over the area, but based on the angle of the shots and the location of phone calls from worried guests in the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.
