Here in America, we are supposed to have freedom of religion, isn't that right? Well just watch what happened to this coach.
According to ChristianToday.com, Coach Joe Kennedy served his country as a Marine in Iraq. After he returned to America, he has served for 8 years as the assistant football coach for Bremerton High School in Bremerton, Washington. For 8 years he has said a prayer at midfield at every football game.
He did not ask any football players to join him, and the district said there was no evidence he coerced any players to join him. Nevertheless, in October the district suspended him and wrote on his evaluation "do not rehire."
The school said his praying at the 50 yard line "poses as a genuine risk that the District will be liable for violating the federal and state constitutional rights of students or others."
What about his constitutional right to freedom of religion? To think that a football coach can't pray -- and he is not coercing students to join him -- we have reached a scary point in America.
