President Donald Trump made a major announcement Wednesday morning via Twitter, informing the nation that transgender individuals will no longer be allowed to serve in the military. Trump stated this change will take effect because “our military must be focused on decisive and overwhelming victory and cannot be burdened with the tremendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail.”

His sudden announcement has of course become very controversial. Within hours, well-known names from both sides of the political spectrum spoke up regarding the situation, including Chelsea Clinton.

Clinton retweeted an article from the Washington Post titled, “Trump’s stance on LGBT rights has always been confusing.” The article discusses Trump’s newest change affecting transgenders in the military as well as previous changes, such as reversing the policy that allows transgender students to use their choice-of-bathroom in public schools.

Clinton responded to the article, claiming Trump’s support for LGBT rights is non-existent. She wrote, “No. President Trump has consistently failed to support LGBT equal rights, dignity & safety in the U.S. & around world (e.g. Chechnya/Russia).”

Clinton is not the only political figure to disagree with President Trump. Others voiced their opinion including Senator John McCain and conservative transgender Caitlyn Jenner.

Although many are upset with Trump’s decision, others believe it was a very bold move. Christian evangelist Franklin Graham was among those who are praising Trump for his faithfulness to conservative Christian values.
