On Thursday, Caitlyn Jenner stepped out in a “Make America Great Again” hat, outraging liberals all over the U.S., who questioned her loyalty to the transgender movement. Conservatives, on the other hand, appreciated that Jenner appeared to be standing her ground even though she disagreed with Trump about the transgender military ban.
However, apparently, the wave of criticism from Twitter and other social media platforms proved too much for Jenner. In a TMZ interview on Saturday, Jenner apologized to the transgender community for sending the wrong message about who she supports more—President Trump or transgender Americans.
“I apologize to all of the trans community,” said Jenner. “I made a mistake. I will never do it again, and I’m getting rid of the hat.”
Jenner is claiming she only wore the hat accidentally. Of course, we can’t confirm whether or not this is true, or Jenner is just trying to save face.
“According to Jenner, she was leaving her Malibu home to drive to the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks, California, when she realized she needed a cap to protect her hair from the wind during the drive in her 1960 convertible,” reports People.
Jenner grabbed a cap without looking to see which one it was, and she drove off to play golf. After playing golf, Jenner replaced the hat and realized it was a “Make America Great Again” hat. She didn’t immediately take the hat off; Jenner was also seen wearing the MAGA hat at a Starbucks on her way home.
Jenner promises she’ll never wear the MAGA hat again, seeming to suggest that she’s done with President Trump. Jenner told TMZ she’s either going to auction off the hat and donate the money to a transgender cause, or she’s simply going to burn it, reports People.
Jenner’s last word to TMZ also seems to suggest she won’t be supporting Trump anymore.
“What he’s doing to our community is absolutely f—— awful,” she said.
Jenner has suggested she’ll run for Senate in California. Will Jenner be running as a Republican or a Democrat now? Read more about what Jenner had to say about Trump's ban here.
