In a move that shocked the entire Republican party, former candidate Ben Carson aligned himself with Donald Trump. According to CNN, the two Republican ‘outsiders’ put aside their differences, left the insults in the past, and banded together as the new face of the Republican party.
Carson appeared with Trump at his private club, Mar-a-Lago, Friday morning to formally endorse the brash billionaire. “Some people have gotten the impression that Donald Trump is this person who is not malleable,” Carson said, “who does not have the ability to listen, and to take information in and make wise decisions. And that’s not true. He’s much more cerebral than that.”
Carson went on to explain that there are “two Donald Trumps.” One is the loud, say-anything entertainer, but the other Trump is reserved and considerate.
This endorsement marks the second large endorsement that Trump has secured from a former presidential candidate. He was endorsed by New Jersey governor Chris Christie several weeks ago.
The endorsement could not come at a worse time for the other three candidates who are trying so hard to gain ground before next Tuesday’s primaries. Carson carries major weight with evangelicals and conservatives and his endorsement might end up sealing Trump’s nomination.
