Some major Hollywood actors are being accused of helping disgraced film executive Harvey Weinstein cover up his sexual misconduct against numerous women. Matt Damon, Ben Affleck, and Casey Affleck are three of the men actress Rose McGowan has recently claimed knew about Weinstein and helped to keep the truth from going public.
But one Hollywood leading man knew about Weinstein's misconduct and threatened the media mogul in a major way: actor Brad Pitt. Though he was not yet established in his career and had a lot to lose, after he found out that Weinstein had inappropriately touched his then-girlfriend Gwyneth Paltrow, Pitt got in Weinstein's face and majorly threatened him, a source told PEOPLE.
“Brad threatened Harvey,” says the source. “He got right in his face, poked him in the chest and said, ‘You will not ever do this to Gwyneth ever again.’ “ Pitt “made it clear there would be consequences” if Weinstein tried anything again, and “described it as giving Harvey a ‘Missouri whooping.'” The source added, “He made it absolutely clear this was not going to happen again and it didn’t."
The source also pointed out that Pitt was not yet secure in his career: “He was a young guy in Hollywood taking a chance. He’s one of the only men in Hollywood who stood up and said something. That’s a fact.”
But even though Weinstein never inappropriately touched Paltrow again, he did call her and threaten her after the conversation with Pitt. Paltow is one of eight women who shared about their traumatizing experiences with Weinstein in last week's New York Times report.
Paltrow told the NYT that Weinstein called her and threatened her not to tell anyone else what happened. “I thought he was going to fire me. He screamed at me for a long time. It was brutal.”
Paltrow is one of many actresses (most young in their career and presumably easier to threaten) who all have similar stories with Weinstein: he would call them in for an "interview," try to get them to massage him, and then attempt to take it further. If they denied him or threatened to tell others, he would either threaten their career or try to buy their silence.
Sadly, he was able to get away with it until now. Weinstein has been thus far forced out of his film company and is facing major backlash. Other celebrities who were close with Weinstein are now having to defend themselves as not knowing about his misconduct.
What do you think about the way Pitt handled Weinstein? And what do you think about the fact that many others probably also knew about the abuse and did nothing? Share your thoughts in the comments! Thank you!
